At the bottom of one of Maggie's drawers I found two browning newspapers wrapped in a plastic bag. They were reports of Maggie's mother's funeral. Reading them I could see why she had become the person she was. I may have referred to a background of service to the community, but I vastly under-estimated the esteem in which her mother and grandfather were held.
