Jan 9th 1957
A very wet start to this year but not cold.  had a quiet Xmas day but Boxing Day Joan & Boys came up  also the Bevis’s<\/a>\n<\/span>\n[?] for a drink after tea  said its late and I seem to have had company or gone out a lot  tomorrow is Ianthe\u2019s Birthday tomorrow  we are invited for Tea on Sat: so will go  I wish they would think of asking Joan & Boys  however I think all he wants is his own folk  a bit disappointing because it would make one and all more happy  I know it would me  Im beginning to feel Im not wanted myself now. as regards to Marg:  Joan & Boys start school next week so I\u2019ll not be seeing them so often  weekend one or other always comes up unless weather too bad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Oct 10th  A very wonderful month as regards weather  very warm & dry but heavy mist morn & evening  no fires yet just the electric one at times in evening  a good thing for coal is so expensive and very very bad at that  9 to 10 pound a ton  Electricity is clean but cheaper to be able to turn on & off. as needed
Russia has the first satellite Circling the earth. at a tremendous rate  seems to pass over the same spot once every 12 hr\u2019s about 11 pm & 5 Am.  it may last a month before disintegrating itself  maybe the earth will be burnt up before this is read  who knows  the world is in a terrific mess all around

Dec 16th 57.  have lost interest in writing up this Book.  the Russians have sent up an Earth Satellite last sept or oct:  the Rocket is down but as far as I know the satellite is still circling the earth miles& miles up.  however Xmas is again on us  I havent been to the shops so am sending each kid & parents 10\/- each & I was saying to Dick last night how very very pleased we would have been had our parents been able to send us money like it at<\/p>\n\n\n\n

this time of year  it would have been a Godsend  now I wonder if they will appreciate it as much  I dont think so  Dick & I expect to spend Christmas alone  we could go to Derwents but just couldn\u2019t and leave Joan & Boys on their own.  Why can\u2019t they make  the effort & have us all  its only a matter of conveying Joan & two boys  Richard has his Byke but they\u2018ve never asked Joan or Boys there so we feel we must refuse  Margaret will have her Brother there why worry.  the weather is more seasonable than I\u2019ve known it for years  no snow here but big frosts & very cold.  the sun Shining brightly Today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

March 25th 58  a bright cold windy day. Frost wind for 3 weeks  the ground is as hard as can be  Im very disappointed in all  I just cannot write what I feel  Dick isn\u2019t interested in anything  material Im buying for the warm weather  Maybe I\u2019ll be able to forget What might have been but all too late.  Easter only another 2 weeks aways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OcT 3rd  Last month was Dick\u2019s lucky month  he started off winning \u00a3100  of course that was lucky for me too  he had a day off and we went shopping  he bought me a very nice eternity ring  the best I\u2019ve ever had and Im thrilled with it  he also wanted to buy me a costume but nothing fits me  I\u2019ll have to have one made later  he bought himself a Mac & shoes  quite a day   lunched out which is a treat to me  Im very busy at present  Another woman & I have started a Good Companion Club for the not so young in the Village  So far we are doing well.  as Im Sec: and am doing most of the Treasurer job but we\u2019ll get going and have a proper Treasurer soon I hope  its marvellous what can be done with a little hard work & thought  about 30 members Started on Sept 4th  the Hall paid for for one year [illegible] and we made about 10-0-0: so far.  we want to get an Xmas party for the members free if poss.  the wettest summer I\u2019ve know  the Ground hasn\u2019t dried up all the Summer and is now like a Quagmire and still raining also blowing hard<\/p>\n\n\n\n
