Having sold my Goldie I transferred my Civil Service employment from Lambeth Bridge House (now demolished) in London to Portsmouth Dockyard in order to look after my mother’s house while she took up a three year appointment in Lima, Peru. I’m not sure how I came by this machine but it was probably all I could afford when in need of some transport. The bought-in Italian engine (Piatti?) was not very exciting but did seem to cope with a lot of adverse circumstances. For example, the contact breaker cam was on the end of the crankshaft but the half shaft must have moved in the flywheel because the end described a circle in the air and I found that I could only time it properly by using the back side of the cam to open the points. However … it seemed OK with this and served me faithfully while I had it.
