Sept. 6th  Warning Siren sounded just before 10pm so we went to bed in the Shelter very heavy firing & overhead fighting till after 3 Am dont know the result no damage near here.  went to sleep & never heard the all clear sound  woke at 7.30 Am.  Warning Siren again at 9.15.  nothing doing all clear at 10.15.  another lovely day.  Margaret had started her knew job assurance company collectors jobs  letter from Mrs Sydenham to thank me for woolly necktie I sent for her 70th birthday.  Heard sirens when in Bath but thought it was a mistake as Margaret had wireless on & took no notice must be getting acclimatised to these sound [illegible].  enjoyed my bath & came down when we heard the sirens  collected our Gas masks & knitting when we discovered it was the All Clear.  Margaret went to get fish dinner & Jerry came over & AA guns tried for him  no sirens last night then All Clear signal was given 12.30 & at 2.30 Jerry came over dropped Bomb at Cosham killing folk that had gone back to bed.  also at Gosport.  all quiet at the moment 3.30 hrs.

Sept 7. Sat:  another night in Shelter.  Bombs dropping & Gunfire but not near enough to be unpleasant.  all clear sounded. about 1 Am but we slept on  Hitler & his followers may like to think we English get the jitters but whoever reads this can take it as the truth everyone is as sure & cool & in no way shivering in their Shelters & we’d rather be “nappoo” than give in to him or his like  still no news from David.

Sunday 8th  Derwent Birthday & what a day  Warning Siren sounded 9.30 last night heavy firing all over & Bombs  Midnight the “General Alarm” Sounded. but didn’t realize what it was by the Sound in [illegible]  only Dick here & me  Mrs Popps next door came & woke up 8.50 Am as we’d gone to bed upstairs after the all Clear had sounded.
