Thursday 6th Jan.  snow has pratically disappeared  only laying where it drifted  now its raining but the clouds are breaking as though it want to be fine  I wanted very badly to go to the S K Club tonight for the General Meeting but dont think I dare  Im feeling better but can’t afford to feel like I have been feeling the last six weeks  I have yet to take Ianthe shopping for her Xmas & Birthday Present  I must struggle to do so before the 10th  I dislike promising to a child & not keeping that promise  The Shakespears are going into Portsmouth Sat so maybe I’ll go in with them  it will help me not having to wait for buses as they do take me straight to Lovett Road they are wonderful neighbours  to have  I did my cider yesterday  Im wondering if its OK  a bit cloudy  cannot write in the year diary what I can put in here  Dick picks it up & reads what I’ve written & I some how object  to having it read as soon as I’ve written but it would be wrong & he wouldn’t understand if I said so  I only wish I could make him see things a little more my way  may be Im wrong I dont know but it makes me very unhappy at times then I say to myself you’re daft do as you want & get you want & to Hell  cant do it but it is the little things that matter so very much

Jan 18.  have kept up to date weather etc in my yearly diary  snow & freeze we have had but sun is shining today  Road very treaherous at spots  went to Dr this morning afternoon feeling so queer for so long and glad to say nothing that can’t be cure  a prolapse of the tissue causing the Bladder to drop through  then must rest a lot or a surgical op:  I do not want the later so will go steady  very painful but hopeful

March 10th 55.  for weather reports & etc one must look in Dayly diary which Mrs Shakespear gave me at Xmas  The weather has been (attrocious) may not be spelt correctly but today although: not so bad its very very cold  wind N.E.  Dick has been to Rugby to see his brother Will who is very ill  Dick says he looks dreadful all skin & bone.  they are still producing the Hydrogen Bomb but are trying hard to make it that no one uses it  until then it will still be made one against the other  to get the most effective one  however should they ever be used this diary will be useless   well I dont suppose this would stand up to the Radio activity and there will be few to read it for I should think the Population of our little Country would be finished & most certainly Barren for years. an awful thought  I’ve a couple of Old Age Pensioners coming to have a day with me  they have I mean other O.A.Ps been writing to the Evening News about the City looking after so many OAP for holidays here from other parts  whereas our who live here help to pay rate etc get no concessions such as free admission to Peir cheap Deck etc & this old couple said they had talked between themselves about it   They couldn’t even afford to pay fares to get to the Sea Front  they live at Drayton so I wrote to ask them if they like a day occasionally with me  Id pay their fare which will amount to about 4/- which is a lot out of their weekly income so I hope to see them in about a fortnight if weather  has improved and I definitely think it is going to  there is very little snow left now  only in the coldest corners  in some places its been the worst weather in Living memory  they have been Blasting the snow drifts in some place to make road safe & passable & feeding the Exmoor, Dartmoor & New Forest Ponies by helicopter  also the sheep on outlying farms must be thousand perished
